The Ignacio football team couldn’t get its offense going and struggled to find an answer to Pagosa Springs’ offense in a 49-0 loss to the Pirates Friday night in Pagosa Springs.
The Pirates ate up the thin roster of Ignacio, which dressed only 17 players for the game.
Ty Kimsey and Cade Cowan torched the Bobcats with a nice one-two running game. Cowan, the Pirates quarterback, wore the Bobcats defense down, while Kimsey, a running back, broke the big plays.
Cowan racked up 143 yards on the ground. Kimsey ran the ball only a few times but each one was devastating. He had touchdown runs of 11, 24 and 62 yards. The 62-yard burst was especially painful for the Bobcats, who had Kimsey wrapped up near midfield, but the speedy running back somehow broke through the tackle of several Bobcats and scampered for the score.
Igancio created a good push in its running attack early on and picked up a few yards per carry. But the Bobcats could never put together a complete drive. Dustin Sanchez led the Bobcats with 21 yards rushing on nine carries.
Marcus Chapman, who started the game at quarterback with regular starter Trace Lovelace sidelined with an ankle injury, went 3-for-12 passing for 47 yards.
The Bobcats will open play in the Southern Peaks League next week, hosting Monte Vista (2-1) at Bobcat Stadium.
