It was a tough weekend for the Fort Lewis College volleyball team.
The Skyhawks fell in three sets to the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs 25-18, 25-16 and 25-16 on Friday night in Colorado Springs, then lost 25-23, 25-18 and 25-15 to Metro State University-Denver on Saturday afternoon in Denver.
Against UCCS (5-6, 2-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference), the Skyhawks (6-6, 1-3) never found an answer to slow down Taylor Hamilton, who smashed home 21 kills in the three sets. Taylor also recorded two aces and three blocks in the match.
Bailey Longacre led Fort Lewis with seven kills and three blocks.
Against Metro State (6-6, 3-1), Stephanie Laraway and Santaisha Sturges provided a one-two combination that kept the Skyhawks defense off balance. Laraway led the way with 16 kills and Sturges added 14.
Maddie LeBlanc led FLC with 10 kills.
Fort Lewis will be back on the road Friday, traveling to Gunnison to take on Western State University (1-11, 0-3).
