Searchers dig as Mexico City reopens just 1% of schools

Locals and volunteers walk in the streets of San Gregorio Atlapulco, Mexico, on Sunday. Inhabitants of the villages that dot the largely rural southern edge of Mexico City said Friday they feel abandoned, as aid and rescue workers focused on the 38 buildings that collapsed nearer the city’s downtown in this week’s 7.1 magnitude quake.
Rescue workers are silhouetted against a search and rescue site, in Mexico City, early Sunday. As the search continued Sunday for survivors and the bodies of people who died in quake-collapsed buildings in Mexico, thousands of people have been left homeless because their houses or apartment buildings are uninhabitable.
