The Durango-La Plata County Airport set a fifth consecutive annual record last year for passenger boardings.
In 2010, the airport saw 165,581 passengers board commercial airliners, an increase of 16,044 from the 149,537 passengers who boarded in 2009.
The increase was 10.7 percent.
Ron Dent, director of aviation at the airport, attributed the increase in boarding passengers to the expanding regional nature of the airport.
We continue to draw passengers from a wider area each year, Dent said. Most passengers formerly traveled to Albuquerque to fly, but fares from Durango have become much more competitive and our airport is more convenient.
In 2010, the airport marked the completion of a number of energy-saving projects, among them air conditioning, climate control and lighting. A 20-kilowatt photovoltaic system was installed to reduce energy use in the terminal.
This year, the airport plans to reconstruct the 25-year-old parking apron.
