I recently looked up the annual budgets for the city, county, state and federal governments. After deducting intergovernmental transfers and dividing by the population of each, I found that total government spending for each resident of Durango comes to $19,350 annually.
That doesnt include special taxing districts. In addition, each man, woman and child in Colorado is carrying $4,900 in unfunded state debt and $45,153 in national debt. For a family of four, this amounts to $77,400 in annual government spending and a debt of more than $200,000.
How anyone can look at those numbers and say they dont think we need to rein in government spending is beyond me.
