The La Plata County Democrats will host the annual “Soup and Soul” fundraiser to celebrate diversity and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Manna Soup Kitchen, 1100 Avenida del Sol.
Keynote speakers include Katherine Smith of Fort Lewis College’s Sociology Department and La Plata County Sheriff Sean Smith.
Shaila Van Sickle, author and former FLC English professor, will share stories of meeting Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King.
Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share according to last name: A-M should bring soups, stews or chili, N-S should bring salads and T-Z should bring desserts. Beer, wine and other refreshments will be provided.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for students and children younger than 15 will be admitted for free.
