100 years ago: The Rev. R.C. Byers of Silverton arrived in Durango from Denver and “was much put out” after the train didn’t run up north, preventing him from getting home to receive a collection the following morning.
75 years ago: An advertisement for Graden’s cosmetics department said, “Elmo special formula cream. Limited time only $1. Gives a youthful, velvety appearance to the throat ... aids in correcting dryness or redness. Retards the formation of lines around the eyes and mouth.”
50 years ago: Floyd C. Bradfield, who served as Cortez postmaster for 22 years, announced his retirement, effective Feb. 17.
25 years ago: A vehicle collision between a compact car and a city dump truck occurred at the intersection of Ninth Street and Camino del Rio. The driver of the compact car was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was treated and released for a head injury.
