As of 6:45 p.m. Monday, only two La Plata Electric Association customers remained out of power northeast of Durango, off Florida Road (County Road 240), after a car hit a pole around 4:30 p.m., a crash that initially put more than 840 customers in the dark.
The outage hit customers served by LPEA’s Spring Creek substation, said Indiana Reed, spokeswoman for LPEA, in a news release issued Monday evening. The Spring Creek substation serves members northeast of Durango, up Florida Road past Edgemont Ranch, including cell towers in the area.
As a result of the collision, LPEA’s system locked open at 4:33 p.m. and crews were dispatched. Shortly after 6 p.m. damage had been accessed, and members served by the Spring Creek Substation were steadily put back in power, Reed said.
The outage came after a car hit a pole on Florida Road, Reed said.
The car hit a pole located in the 4700 block of Florida Road, about three miles northeast of Durango.
