Dave Peters and the “Great Recall” ... such utter nonsense and undisguised malice.
Having failed to get a finding from the Colorado Ethics Committee, an independent attorney review, and the La Plata County attorney that Commissioner Gwen Lachelt had done anything worthy even of reprimand or censure, Peters continues his mission of Lachelt harassment, now with initiating a recall drive on Gwen.
Recall is a very powerful tool, and not to be used for personal vendettas. Recall is generally initiated against those elected officials who have committed some criminal act, not against someone with whom you have philosophic differences.
Make no mistake here, Peters has a personal vendetta, which is playing out as tantamount to stalking, against our commissioner.
Lachelt has committed no criminal or unethical acts. She has done the job that she told the people of La Plata County she would do when she ran for re-election and won handily. She is whom the majority of voters want in office.
So while she, like anyone who has ever held that position, has made decisions with which people will not agree, she has done nothing that merits this antagonistic, relentless hounding. And this little exercise means our subsidizing the flames of Peters’ personal grievances may cost us taxpayers $60,000. And it is all because, according to oil-and-gas lifer Peters, Gwen Lachelt supported BLM rules that would clean up our air.
This is not an exercise in democracy. Please, recognize this for what it is: undisguised malice.
