Avalanche work planned for Red Mountain Pass

An avalanche control crew member reaches up to indicate the 10 to 12 foot snowslide that was triggered during mitigation operations on Tuesday on U.S. Highway 550 on Red Mountain Pass. Purposely triggered slides provide safer travel for the public, as opposed to natural slides, which have the potential of coming down at unpredictable times with the possibility of burying any passing vehicles.
