Steamworks Brewing Co. will again reprise the popular “Irish Car Bomb” as Firkin Fridays continues at the brewpub on Friday. The firkin will be tapped at 3 p.m.
“At this point we can’t consider anything else for the March Firkin due to its popularity,” said Steamworks brewmaster Ken Martin in a news release. “It’s our only reoccurring firkin. I haven’t changed the recipe, and everyone looks forward to it this time of year.”
The Irish Car Bomb has as its base Steamworks’ Backside Stout, which features complex malt and oat flavor. Its second fermentation is with Irish Cream and Jameson Irish Whiskey flavors.
A firkin is an old English unit of volume, typically a wooden cask equal to approximately one-quarter of a regular barrel, or nine/ten gallons. The word “firkin” is derived from the Middle Dutch word “vierdekijn,” which means “fourth” as in one-fourth the size. Firkin beer is unpasteurized and unfiltered and served at cellar temperature - cool but not cold.
