The incoming City Council will be shaping a rewrite of the citys zoning and development fees and regulations, and dealing with a $5 million request from the Animas-La Plata Water Board to supply water for 24,000 new residents.
With the three continuing city councilors tied to the real estate industry, it will continue to have a majority on the new council.
Im going to vote for someone who has made the city of Durango her home for more than 30 years, an independent, innovative and fearless voice for Durangos residents on the City Council Sweetie Marbury.
Sweetie has the background of years of participation in city government and planning issues. She has never been intimidated or afraid to speak out. She has always worked for the whole community, bringing forth new ideas to improve the city and the life of its residents.
Sweetie hasnt been just happy talk and promises. Among the candidates, she has the track record of service to the whole community.
For one example among many, she spearheaded the drive to save Brookside Park from private development, then put together a group of residents to landscape and develop it.
Durango needs city councilors like this leaders who care about keeping Durango a living, working community, with a balanced outlook for all its residents, working men and women, kids, seniors and, yes, our visitors and college students who bring such diversity and economic vitality to our town.
I urge my fellow residents to vote for Anita Sweetie Marbury.
She will stand up for all of us.
