The Bayfield High School track and field team participated in the Bloomfield Quad Track Meet at Bloomfield High School on Saturday, earning second in the boys team scoring and fourth in the girls.
On the boys side, Tanner Phelps finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:06.9, Travis Stuever took first with a pole vault of 11 feet, and Taylor Swanemyr won with a triple jump of 38 feet, 7 inches.
The BHS boys team of Swanemyr, Alex Araujo, Tanner Paulek and Cody Smith took first in the 800 relay at 1:39.2.
Jordan Fields, Tanner Phelps, Dakota Decker and Will Treanor won the 1,600 medley in a time of 4:03.3.
For the girls, Sierra Aten finished first in the 100 in 13.7.
Myra Dean edged out teammate Jacey Sirios for first in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.
Sirios and Aten joined Marleigh Coffelt and Lisa Wickman to win the 400 in a time of 53.5.
Bayfield opened its season at the Early Bird Invitational in Farmington on March 7.
Derek Laue led the Wolverines in New Mexico, finishing second in the 3,200 in 10:31.7.
The BHS boys 4x100 relay team finished fifth behind Jordan Fields, Paulek, Smith and Swanemyr.
The boys 4x200 team of Jacob Hetrick, Paulek, Smith and Swanemyr finished eighth.
Zeb Cyr, Cole Bryson, Hugo Toral and Michael Folke teamed to give the Wolverines a seventh-place finish in the 4x400.
In the 1,600 medley, BHS was sixth with Araujo, Fields, Stuever and Folk.
Individually, Swanemyr was sixth in the triple jump, Toral was seventh in the high jump and eighth in the 300 hurdles, Treanor was eighth in the 400, and Araujo was eighth in the long jump.
Aten led the BHS girls. She was sixth in the 100-meter dash. Wickman was eighth in the 100 hurdles for the Wolverines.
Wickman, Makaila Miller, Erika Newell and Shelby Stone were fifth in the 1,600 medley relay.
Miller, Amanda Newell, Adel Vaughn and Erika Newell finished sixth in the 4x400. And Miller, Wickman, Darby Boggess and Aten teamed to take sixth in the 4x200.
The Wolverines will travel next Saturday to Hotchkiss High School for the Hotchkiss Invitational.
