As a former Planning Commission chairman, I cant count the number of times I had to bite my tongue. In fact, it often was raw because of the enormous constraint it took (especially for me) to elicit a proper, diplomatic response.
I understand Sweetie Marbury lashing out at Tony Hollars in her capacity as chairwoman of the Design Review Board, however, I do not condone this conduct. In doing so, she lowered herself to a level of diminished self-esteem and exposed the city of Durango and the taxpayers to an unavoidable cost in defending against a $3 million lawsuit.
The city already has terminated many good employees to deal with the current recession. To put things in perspective, there is a potential $3 million loss that could affect 12 good hardworking people employed at $50,000 per year for five years.
I believe Sweetie is a good person, however, I sincerely believe the City Council can be better served by people with better diplomatic skills than either of us.
