An Arboles woman died this week in a single-car rollover 11 miles southwest of Ignacio.
Kaunditta K. Sanchez, 60, was traveling northbound on Colorado Highway 151 when her 1992 Toyota pickup drifted off the right side of the road and collided with a delineator post, according to an accident report from the Colorado State Patrol. The accident occurred at 7:05 p.m. Monday.
Sanchez overcorrected several times. The vehicle continued 370 feet out of control while rolling multiple times before coming to rest on its right side, straddling the traffic lanes.
It is possible that Sanchez became distracted while reaching for a cell phone or playing with the compact disc player in the car, said Trooper Jonathan Silver. He didn't suspect fatigue, because Sanchez had not been driving long.
The accident occurred on a straight section of road, and road conditions were good, he said. She was traveling about 60 mph in the 60 mph zone.
Sanchez was pronounced dead on the scene.
The road was closed for a couple of hours both ways while emergency crews worked to remove the vehicle.
Sanchez had a daughter in Arboles.
