As state cuts back, Colorado college student costs soar

Since the recession, states across the country have shifted the costs of higher ed from taxpayers to students. In Colorado, that shift has been particularly pronounced, and dates back even to before the recession. But it’s gone all but unnoticed at the state Capitol, where K-12 schools dominate the political discussion. At the governor’s request, lawmakers this year approved the biggest boost to higher ed funding in years, but it still won’t be enough to prevent another round of tuition hikes.
