75 years ago: Dog owners were reminded that dog taxes would soon be due. The tax was $3 for male dogs and $5 for females. Residents were also warned that a dog catcher was on duty and “ready to catch all unlicensed dogs.”
50 years ago: Bids would be released June 15 for the construction of a road into the wilderness heart of the Hermosa drainage, located 10 miles northwest of Durango. Area residents met the project with opposition.
25 years ago: La Plata County Sheriff’s Office reported that a Flora Vista man shot an Ignacio man in the wrist with a firearm. The conflict escalated from an ongoing dispute over property being shared between the two men.
