Ryan Terry pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing only five hits, as the Bayfield High School baseball team beat Colorado Springs Palmer 4-2 on Friday afternoon in the Cortez Tournament.
"Ryan was ... in control all game," Bayfield head coach Ken Hibbard said. "He scattered his hits around. He was smart and consistent."
He gave up single runs in the fifth and sixth innings against the Class 5A school. He had only one walk in his seven innings of work.
Bayfield scored one run in the second, two in the third and one more in the fifth as the Wolverines improved to 5-2.
Brenden Harrison went 3-for-4 for Bayfield. Teammate Logan Funkhouser was 2-for-3.
Shea Conrad added two more hits for the Wolverines.
"He's (hitting) like a machine," Hibbard said.
"It was a good high school game. We had no real breakdowns, no big innings ... and we get to play again (today)."
The Wolverines will play Kirtland Central at 9 a.m. today to complete the Cortez Tournament.
The Bayfield JV team, coming off a loss Friday, will play at 11 a.m. today in the JV division of the Cortez tourney.
