50 years ago: A “wide variety of subjects” related to “dryland bean and small grains farming” were discussed during the third biennial field day program at the Colorado Agricultural Experiment Station north of Cortez.
25 years ago: Fort Lewis Mesa firefighters responded to a 25-acre out-of-control burn off County Road 106 and two other small fires that started near County Road 140. Fire chief John Vogel warned that fire danger was extremely high and urged residents not to burn trash or set controlled burns until conditions changed.
