Healing from trauma to be focus of talk
Randi Schweitz will present The healing power of connecting to our inner strengths at 7 p.m. May 18 at The Café of Life, 925 Colorado Highway 3.
This talk will explore how trauma affects people and how to heal through it. The talk is free. Schweitz began her career counseling women in abusive relationships on Alternative Horizons domestic-violence crisis hotline. Through her work as an advocate, Schweitz became curious about the effects of childhood trauma and how it affected the development of relationships and self-esteem in adulthood. She is currently a psychotherapist in private practice and a group facilitator for Alternative Horizons womens support groups.

Pharmacy offers free childrens program
Rivergate Pharmacy is offering a free childrens vitamin program to local families.
This program will give enrolled families access to free childrens vitamins for one year. Parents may enroll their children from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the pharmacy, located in the Rivergate Medical Office Building, 575 Rivergate Lane, Suite No. 111 adjacent to Animas Surgical Hospital. The pharmacy also will offer free refreshments, chair massages and other health-oriented screenings.

Pet Celebration to be held Saturday
Paws N Playtime, 214 Bodo Drive, will hold a Pet Celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
The La Plata County Humane Society and Annies Orphans will have adoptable dogs available. Pethaus, Café of Life Chiropractic, veterinarian Brian Marshall of Bakers Bridge and dog trainer Juliet Whitfield will be in attendance. There will be a live remote with 4 Corners Broadcasting and giveaways. All proceeds will go to Annies Orphans and the humane society.

Insurance women to meet Friday
The National Association of Insurance Women Four Corners Chapter will hold its annual membership meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Christinas Grill & Bar, 21382 U.S. Highway 160.
Speakers will include Vicie Reales, state director for NAIW, and Elizabeth Webb of Decorating Designs, offering an alternative to high-priced interior designing. The seminar is complimentary, and lunch will be available for purchase.

Jim Isgar to visit Native Roots center
Colorados State Director of USDA Rural Development, Jim Isgar will be in Durango on Friday to recognize the first business recipient of the Rural Micro Entrepreneur Assistance Program loan in Colorado.
Native Roots Garden Center is the first recipient of the money, and this business will be the site of Isgars visit at 10 a.m. The money supports the development and ongoing success of rural micro-entrepreneurs and microenterprises with loans of $50,000 or less.
