As an avid trail motorcyclist, mountain biker, hiker, fly-fisherman and wilderness advocate, I would like to commend Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., and his work toward finalizing legislation on the Hermosa Creek management plan. The Hermosa Creek trail represents some of the finest local single-track riding in the area and must be managed in a way that preserves this riding experience.
The Hermosa community process is an example of a well-balanced land management plan working to support a variety of user groups and their activities while preserving much of the backcountry experience of the area for generations to come. As our recreational population continues to grow, so, too, does the need for well-developed and common-sense-based land-management strategies.
This important legislation will symbolize the possibility of diverse user groups such as mountain bikers, motorcyclists and wilderness advocates constructively working together toward a common goal of preserving the areas unique opportunities. I would like to thank Sen. Bennet for drafting this legislation that is reflective of the community groups recommendations.
