Art lovers will again be on overload tonight for the annual Spring Gallery Walk.
The 10 member galleries of the Durango Gallery Association make up the backbone of Gallery Walk with visits and exhibitions by featured artists, catered parties and all kinds of special events.
And as has become the custom in recent years, many other venues will take advantage of the crowds to showcase local artists, as well.
But the Gallery Walk is by and for the galleries: Studio &, Earthen Vessel, Sorrel Sky, Open Shutter, Toh-Atin, Karyn Gabaldon Fine Arts, Diane West Jewelry & Art, the Durango Arts Center, Azul and Rain Dance Gallery.
Those galleries are full-time venues that feature regular and rotating rosters of local and national professional artists, and theyre the faces of Durangos art community the association recently printed 10,000 new brochures that will greet visitors at the airport and the Durango Area Tourism Office, as well as educate locals about local art options.
But Gallery Association President McCarson Jones said the group wanted to acknowledge other venues that support local artists, as well.
Those locations dont meet the by-law requirements of the association, but we want to support them since they add so much to our downtown art scene, Jones said.
Unofficial stops on the Gallery Walk include The World According to Mark, Eno, the Rochester Hotel and Marias Bookshop, among others.
The Spring Gallery Walk will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today.
