Local returns after deployment
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Levi J. Owens, a 1993 graduate of Dolores High School, recently returned from a six-month deployment in support of maritime security operations while attached to aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, homeported at the Norfolk, Va., Naval Station.
Owens serves in Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 40 (VRC-40), which includes four detachments that supply carriers with high-priority cargo, mail and passengers to and from the Atlantic Fleet. VRC-40 earned the Battle Effectiveness Award during its last deployment, making it the third consecutive year it has won the award.
Owens joined the Navy in September 1993.

Airman graduates from basic training
Air Force Airman 1st Class Connor W. Goodall graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associates degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Goodall, a 2010 graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School in Cortez, is the son of Jay and Gina Goodall of Cortez.
