It's just bizarre that Republicans continue to say Colorado's proposed gas and oil regulations are scaring off companies from our state. This defies common sense, and the facts. The Herald deserves credit for pointing out March 13 that, yes, the number of gas and oil rigs operating in Colorado is down, but it's down by an equal or greater number in neighboring states.
An objective viewer would conclude that the global economic downturn has more to do with decreased drilling than Colorado's new regulations. Nonetheless, Republican members of the Colorado House of Representatives continue to repeat this talking point.
We're fortunate our Republican Rep. Ellen Roberts apparently knows better and voted for the new rules, which provide necessary protections for our health, without threatening the gas and oil industry's operations here.
