Poverty has struck, and so far, we havent done much about it. If our country, or even just a considerable amount of people, stood up to make a difference, our world would be changed forever.
According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day because of poverty. Imagine yourself in their situation. How would you feel if your best friend died and you knew you werent far behind? Solutions are out there; its time for us to put effort toward them.
To add to the devastation, 121 million children live without a basic education. With no significant knowledge to support their future, the country will abate with their people. We are fortunate to have an education, no matter what the circumstances. Honestly, I have had times when Ive said, I dont want to go to school today. Now I realize there are millions of children who would kill for my education.
We need to transform our worlds future: Stand up to poverty. Care, a leading humanitarian organization, strives to bring education, disease prevention, access to clean water, and jobs to destitute Third World countries, particularly to women. Care has been a substantial help toward fighting poverty, but they still need your donation. Please go to their website, http://my.care.org/site/PageServer?pagename= Home, to contribute to a noble cause.
Another way to assist the revolution is to hold fundraisers. One of my goals includes getting companies or generous individuals to sponsor my friends and me in a sports game or a mile run.
For example, Id get my school to consider donating all the money made by one of our sports activities (concessions, entrance fee, etc.), to a humanitarian organization like Care. As for the mile run, the sponsors would pledge a certain amount of money for each mile we ran. Im taking action are you?
There are multiple opportunities to help the poverty-stricken, and I pledge to help in the ways I can. My seventh-grade English assignment has opened my eyes, and now I hope you open yours as well.
