Certification money available for teachers
The Colorado Department of Educations Office of Professional Services and Educator Licensing has a limited availability of scholarships to support teachers applying for National Board Certification with the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.
Teachers can apply for a federal scholarship of $1,250 provided by the U.S. Department of Education, as well as a Colorado scholarship of $750. The scholarship window is open through Dec. 1 or until the money is no longer available.
Interested teachers should begin by applying with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. Candidates must check the box that allows their information to be released to funding agencies. After paying an application processing charge and initial fee, teachers should complete the Federal Scholarship Application Form. Scholarship application forms, the essay and proof of payment should be faxed to CDE at (303) 866-6866.

Ignacio schools to offer free meals
The Ignacio School District will offer free summer meals to children 1 to 18 years Monday to Friday from today to Aug. 12 at Ignacio High School, 315 Becker St. in Ignacio.
The school will be closed July 4 and 11. Parents may join their children for breakfast for $2.50 and lunch for $3.50.
Breakfast will be served from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Food cannot be taken out of the cafeteria.

b AHS continues to accept online enrollment and student registrations for next school years ninth- and 10th-grade classes.
b AHS will offer two summer programming options: math or Spanish enrichment will be held from 8 a.m. to noon from June 6 to 24 and again from 8 a.m. to noon from July 18 to Aug. 5. Summer school (math, humanities, science or Spanish) will be held from 8 a.m. to noon June 6 to 24 and again from 8 a.m. to noon from July 18 to Aug. 5. AHS summer programs are intended for currently enrolled and incoming AHS students.

Discovery Museum will offer events
The Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio, will hold these events:
b Learn about the history of physical computing, do-it-yourself electronics and the arduino revolution from Ryan Finnigan. A kids workshop and demonstration will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. today and from 4 to 6 p.m. June 15. An adult workshop and demonstration will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. today and from 7 to 9 p.m. June 15.
b Powerhouse Theater will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The topic will include a brief history of observational astronomy as well as some recent science discoveries. Participants will tour objects in space, starting in close then moving to deep-space structures to present the evolution of knowledge of the universe.
b The seventh annual Daddyfest will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 18 on Main Avenue. Tickets are sold for activities, food, music and beer.
b Pub Science for Adults will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 1 at the Powerhouse. Pub Science will be held the first Friday of every month. Theres food and light libations. The cost is $5 per person, and no RSVP or tickets are required.
Mountain Middle to hold meeting
Mountain Middle School will hold a required parent orientation meeting for all families with a student who is enrolled in the 2011-2012 school year from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
In accordance with the charter, parents are required to attend a registration meeting before school opens in August. The school will make arrangements with those parents who are unable to attend this scheduled meeting.
Drivers education classes to be held
Four Corners Safety Association will offer 30-hour drivers education classes that will be held from June 20 to 23 and Aug. 15 to 18.
The association also will conduct a class in Igancio from July 11 to 14. The cost for the class and the six hours of driving required by the state is $350.
