Seniors Outdoors! announces the following activities:
b There will be a very challenging climb to the Parrot and Madden peaks in the La Plata Mountains at 7 a.m. Sunday. RSVP to Bob Thompson at 382-9271.
b At 9 a.m. Monday, there will be a moderate hike on Larkspur Lane, named for the larkspur and other flowers carpeting the meadows of the Lower Engineer Mountain Trail. RSVP to Clark Lagow at 259-9337 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
b The Wednesday Wanderers will take a moderate hike on Missionary Ridge to the radio towers, leaving at 8:15 a.m. Trip leader is Warren Livingston (769-1437). RSVP for nonmembers only.
b There will be a hard hike to Cascade Creek waterfall at 8 a.m. Thursday. RSVP to Travis Ward at 247-1310.
b On June 17, there will be an easy-to-hard hike in the Upper Hermosa area. It will leave at 7:30 a.m. RSVP to Susan Beck-Brown at 375-0948 or email@example.com.
Packing, camping clinic set for Saturday
There will be a one-day clinic on packing techniques for livestock users and Leave No Trace principles for all campers Saturday in Vallecito.
The event, cosponsored by the Four Corners Backcountry Horsemen and the U.S. Forest Service, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Participants will work in small groups to practice with pack saddles, ropes and knots.
Stock restraint also will be covered along with minimal-impact campfire and cooking techniques.
Stock animals will be provided. Participants should leave animals (including dogs) at home. They should bring lunch and a camp chair.
Clinic cost is $10 for the general public but is free for Backcountry Horsemen and Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and Division of Wildlife employees.
The clinic will be held at the Forest Service Vallecito work station on County Road 501.
