A gathering to celebrate the life of Gleb Derujinsky Jr. and his wife, Wallis Derujinsky, will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave., in Durango. The couple was killed in a car accident on Thursday, June 9 2011, in Durango.

He was born to Alexandra Michailoff and Gleb Derujinsky Sr. on March 19, 1925, in New York City. His mother was a talented classical pianist who taught him to play the piano, an activity that led him to perform at Carnegie Hall at the age of 5 and to a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Mr. Derujinskys father was a noted sculptor.
In 1972, he married Wallis Wally Gault in Manhattan. They moved to Durango in 1976.
Mr. Derujinsky is survived by his daughters Eugenia Derujinsky of North Carolina and her two children, and Andrea Derujinsky of Los Angeles and her two children; son, Peter Derujinsky, of England; sister, Natasha Derujinsky; and extended family members.
