A high-speed car chase that started Friday in southern La Plata County ended in San Juan County, New Mexico, said Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adrian Driscoll.
The incident started about 11:30 a.m. when a trooper spotted a 2015 Chrysler 200 traveling 116 mph on U.S. Highway 550, near the New Mexico state line, Driscoll said.
Authorities pursued the vehicle, which went south into New Mexico.
Driscoll said Friday afternoon the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Patrol laid spike strips to deflate the vehicle’s tires near County Road 2900 in San Juan County.
The driver, Farmington resident Jeffrey Roth, who is in his late 20s, was arrested and taken to La Plata County Jail.
Driscoll said authorities “have no idea why he tried to run” from police. Roth did not resist arrest once the vehicle’s tires were deflated and did not show any signs of drug or alcohol impairment, he said.
No one was injured as a result of the police chase, which lasted about 15 minutes, Driscoll said.
