After reading the piece about Sen. Michael Bennets hike in Hermosa Creek (Herald, May 30), I urge all of us who live or vacation in Southwest Colorado to get actively involved in the process of protecting Hermosa Creek.
Home to remarkable wildlife, unspoiled forests and a vital watershed, Hermosa Creek attracts visitors from near and far. The area is a recreation Mecca for kayakers, hunters and anglers as well as mountain bikers and folks who prefer motorized recreation. Sen. Bennets bill will support recreation, preserve the stunning natural landscape of the area and guarantee the needs of ranchers and farmers.
I am grateful that Bennet has committed to create policy that attends to the different interests and needs within the local community.
The senator recently posted his draft of the Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act and he wants feedback from the community.
Please visit http://bennet.senate.gov/hermosacreek/and let him know you want this area protected for generations to come.
