I'm writing to encourage Durango citizens to vote for Christina Thompson for City Council by Tuesday. I have had the great pleasure of knowing and working with her for more than eight years. She is an extremely smart and hard-working manager who has the vision and leadership to help guide our town toward the continued vitality and quality of life we all desire.
She will put the time and energy in to study the issues and make choices that will continue to move us toward a sustainable community that grows in a reasonable manner while being prepared to make the tough fiscal decisions we will face in the next couple of years. She is very fair and will consider the common good of the entire community (not a narrow agenda) when helping set priorities and direction for our great, committed city staff. She always seeks to collaborate and will respect and work in cooperation with her fellow councilors and our good county commissioners and county staff.
I am excited to be on the cusp of having her on council working with Michael Rendon and Leigh Meigs (both of whom I respect a lot) and two of the other candidates (all three of whom I think are really good folks). Imagine where our community can go with a council made up of committed people (arguably a combination of five of the best folks since I've lived here) that all focus on cooperating to lead us through these challenging times.
Christina is running for the thankless job of city councilor because she really cares about our town and wants to help continue to protect and enhance our quality of life and community values.
Lastly, those who know Christina already know what a wonderful, caring and supportive person she is.
For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting her yet: Take my word that she will make a great city councilor and will be a very positive force in guiding us forward. Be sure to vote!
Phil Bryson, Durango
