Now that hunting season is in full swing in Colorado, I think it is important to highlight hunting and the positive economic benefits it provides our state.
In addition to taxes collected from hunting licenses which goes toward wildlife conservation programs, Colorado hunters spend $221 million on trip-related expenditures every year. This money translates into revenue for a multitude of businesses such as sporting goods stores, restaurants, gas stations, hotels, motels and grocery stores.
This revenue supports over 8,400 jobs in Colorado alone. Businesses in our community benefit from area hunters. In fact, businesses across the entire state get an economic boost during hunting season.
At the Montrose Chamber of Commerce, we work every day to help promote and improve the business climate for the Montrose area. We recently joined as a partner with Hunting Works For Colorado (huntingworksforCO.com), which is a partnership of small businesses, hunters and groups like the Chamber who seek to educate hunters and non-hunters alike on the economic benefits of hunting.
Hunting is a great Colorado success story. It helps our towns, our businesses, and allows thousands to enjoy the great outdoors.
