Arts Center to host reception Thursday
The Durango Arts Center will host an artists reception for Girls Opportunities through Art and Leadership, class of 2011, from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday. The work will include drawing, painting, sculpture, writing and dance.
GOAL was established in 2002 to nurture and support skill development in the arts while promoting self-expression and self-inquiry in adolescent girls. While developing their artistic skills, the girls learn to use the resources within themselves and in their environment to create a vision for their present and future and to work toward their goals and dreams.
Using the visual arts as a framework, the arts curriculum addresses issues in the areas of identity, goal setting, problem solving, independent thinking and thus helping build self-esteem.
