Sled dog racers hope third time is a charm for Silverton race

After two years of cancellations, conditions look promising for 2019

Silverton Flying Sled Dog Races: Jan. 12-13 in Silverton.
Racing will start at 9:30 a.m. both days, at Molas Lake Park.
Race classifications will include six-dog sled teams, four-dog sled teams, two-dog skijoring teams and one-dog skijoring teams.
At 5 p.m. Jan. 12, a dog truck parade will be held in Silverton, and at 6 p.m. Jan. 12, a mushers’ banquet and movie will take place at the Grand Imperial Hotel. An awards ceremony will be held after the races Jan. 13.

Dogsledders set up to go for a run around Silverton in 2017 after the event was canceled because of too much snow. In 2018, the race was canceled because of too little snow, but conditions look promising for this year’s race on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13.
