Jazmin Stoner named to deans list
Jazmin Stoner of Durango has been named to the spring semester deans list at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I.
Stoner is a senior majoring in applied psychology.
Teacher participates in placement testing
Jill L. Hoehlein was selected to participate in the annual reading and scoring of the College Boards Advanced Placement Examinations this June in biology.
Hoehlein was the table leader for the biology reading. She helped set the grading rubrics for the essay questions on the 2011 Advanced Placement Exam and helped maintain the standards during the reading.
The program gives high school students an opportunity to take college-level courses and examinations. Based on their exam performance, successful students can receive credit and advanced placement when they enter college.
Hoehlein lives in Hesperus and teaches as adjunct faculty in the biology department at Fort Lewis College. She also teaches at Southwest Community Colleges Mancos campus. She is a tutor for the Native American Center, volunteers at the La Plata County Animal Shelter and is the volunteer coordinator for Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies.
Mariah Connor receives scholarship
Mariah Connor, a 2011 graduate of Durango High School-FFA has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by New Country Ford-Lincoln-Mercury Inc. and Ford Motor Co.
Connor is the daughter of Brian Connor and Michelle Hanington of Hesperus. She plans to study agricultural business management at Northeastern Junior College.
The Build Ford Tough-FFA Scholarship Program is designed to recognize FFA members talents and accomplishments while encouraging their future academic achievements.
Ignacio student All-American Scholar
The United States Achievement Academy announces that Tori Archuleta of Ignacio has been named an All-American Scholar.
The program was established to offer recognition to superior students who excel in the academic disciplines. The scholars must earn a 3.3 or higher grade-point average. Only scholars selected by a school instructor, counselor or other qualified sponsor are accepted. Archuleta, who attends Ignacio Intermediate School, was nominated by Burt Baldwin.
Archuleta will appear in the All-American Scholar Yearbook which is published nationally. She is the daughter of Anthony and Maria Archuleta of Igancio. Her grandparents are John and Diana Archuleta of Durango and Delbert Cuthair Sr. and Veronica Silva of Ignacio.
Moonwalker Williams named to deans list
Moonwalker Williams of Durango recently was listed on the 2011 spring semester deans list at the University of Portland.
Williams is a junior studying English. Students need at least a 3.5 grade-point average to be eligible for the deans list.
