A church group from Texas spent a week doing deeds to benefit the Durango community.
Crosspoint Church brought 54 young people and 10 adults from McKinney, Texas, who divided their time collecting food from area grocery stores for the Durango Food Bank and performing trail maintenance with Trails 2000, church member Kyle Wilson said.
Church members collected money and food Thursday and Friday at both City Market stores, Albertsons, Natures Oasis and Walmart.
Sarah Smith, director of Durango Food Bank, said the group asked to work in Durango after raising money and donations here in 2008.
The group has raised $4,075 and 2,834 pounds of food so far.
The kids raised their own money to come here to volunteer and even missed out on Fourth of July festivities to make the drive, Smith said.
Its neat that theyre so devoted to this, she said.
