I have never seen so many people downtown as were here for the Fourth of July festivities. I am glad it has been resurrected, and maybe it just needs a bit of tweaking.
Maybe the Durango Area Tourism Office, the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Improvement District or whomever can provide funds for Linda Mannix of the Durango Cowboy Gathering or Snowdowns Terry Fiedler to help out. Those two parades are the best, and the organizers know how to put out a great show. Or perhaps get all the nonprofits in town to put on the parade and compete for monetary prizes for their organizations. People loved being downtown for the parade, the street dance and the fireworks.
Buckley Park could also use some additional food or activities to keep people down there. Another great idea just needing a little more substance. There was great music, but the line-up was never in the paper or on posters. Visitors and locals all seemed to enjoy the downtown festivities, so please, dont stop its just getting going!
