Cortez school board approves logo design

Sleeping Ute Mountain emblem will represent RE-1
Local artist TJ Zark, left, and Carol Mehesy, director of school improvement and grants, presented new district logo options at the regular school board meeting Feb. 19. The one ultimately chosen features a depiction of the Sleeping Ute Mountain.
The other logo that Zark and Mehesy presented centered around large “MC” capital letters. Board members, however, felt that this emblem could be confused for “Montezuma County,” rather than “Montezuma-Cortez.”
