Three goals from Abby Escandon weren’t enough for Fort Lewis College to pull off a big upset Friday in Denver.
No. 7 Regis rolled past the FLC Skyhawks women’s lacrosse team for a 19-7 win Friday afternoon. The Rangers (8-0, 1-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) built an 11-3 lead at halftime and cruised from there.
Regis scored the first four goals before Ann Nelson answered for FLC (1-3, 1-2 RMAC). The Rangers than ran off six unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-1 advantage with only 7 minutes, 19 seconds to go in the first half.
Sarah Myres continued her scoring onslaught this season with six goals Friday. She now has 30 goals this season. Lauren Hurd, Andrea Macalalad, Kyleigh Peoples and Ali Vanek all had two goals for Regis. Grace Rosenthal led the Rangers with four assists, while Maya Quigley had three assists.
Delaney Benson, Maren Clark and Allena Wolfblack scored the other goals for the Skyhawks. Rachel Hurst led FLC with two assists.
FLC was outshot 35-27, including 32-20 in shots on goal. Regis also won the ground ball battle 19-11 and won 19 draws to only eight for the Skyhawks.
Daris Wienk made 13 saves in goal for FLC. Hope Correia made 12 saves for the Rangers in 43 minutes of action, while Elle Crawford made one in 17 minutes.
Next for FLC is a trip to Salt Lake City to face Westminster College at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
