9-R school board to meet Aug. 23
The Durango School District 9-R School Board will meet at 5 p.m. Aug. 23 in the board room of the administration building, 201 E. 12th St.

9-R to hold candidate orientation sessions
Durango School District 9-R School Board members will hold two Board Candidate Orientation Sessions for people interested in running for one of the four school board seats in November.
The sessions are the same, but will be held at different times. The sessions will be held at 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday in the board room of the administration building, 201 E. 12th St.

Mandatory meeting for Durango athletics
There will be a mandatory meeting for all fall athletes, parents and coaches at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 in the Durango High School gym.
Topics of discussion will include the philosophy of DHS athletic programs; athlete conduct code; sportsmanship of players, coaches and parents; eligibility requirements; booster club information; and the introduction of trainers and coaches.
After the meeting, students and parents will meet with the individual coaches in designated areas.
9-R elementary schools to hold registration
Durango School District 9-R elementary schools will hold registration from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Seniors from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Aug. 11.

Big Picture High School to hold registration
Durango Big Picture High School registration for freshmen to seniors will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 11 and 12.

Drivers education class to be offered
Four Corners Safety Association will offer its next 30-hour drivers education class from Aug. 15 to 18.
The cost for the class, plus the six hours of driving required by the state, is $350.

Ignacio school board to hold board election
The Board of Education of the Ignacio School District is seeking board candidates for an election to be held on Nov. 1.
Three board members will be elected for terms of four years. To qualify, a candidate must have been a registered voter within the school district for at least 12 consecutive months before the election and be a resident of the district the candidate would represent.
A person is ineligible to run if he or she has been convicted of committing a sexual offense against a child. People interested in running must file a written notice of intention to be a candidate and submit a nomination petition signed by at least 25 eligible electors.
Nomination petitions may be obtained from Janet Reinhardt at 315 Ignacio St. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Completed petitions must be submitted to Donna Elder, 98 Everett St., Suite C, Durango, no later than 4 p.m. Aug. 26.
Escalante announces fall sports practices
Escalante Middle School will begin its fall sports practices on these dates:
Seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball practice will begin at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 15.
Seventh- and eighth-grade football practice will begin at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 12.
In order to participate and practice, all athletes must have a sports physical. Physical forms were sent home with the end-of-the-year packet in June.Forms also are available at http://escalante.durangoschools.org and in the middle schools front office. There is an activity fee of $20.
