Seminar for professionals working with familiesThe Early Childhood Council of La Plata County will offer Touchpoints Individual Level Training, a three-day seminar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 23, Sept. 30 and Oct. 7.
The training is intended for professionals working with young children and families.
Touchpoints is a practical approach to healthy child development to enhance parental competence and build strong family-child relationships from before birth through the earliest years.
The cost is $60 per participant. Registration deadline is Sept. 9.

Elementary schools install outdoor instrumentsDurango School District 9-R recently purchased Freenotes Harmony Park Ensembles for all seven of its elementary schools.
Freenotes are outdoor musical instruments that have “no wrong notes,” which allow beginners to quickly gain confidence and learn that making music can be fun.

Durango school board will meet WednesdayThe Durango School District 9-R Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the boardroom at the administration building, 201 E. 12th St.
Elks’ national scholarship competition to beginBeginning Thursday, high school seniors can apply for the Elks National Foundation 2017 Most Valuable Student Scholarship.
The competition is open to high school seniors (public, private or home-schooled) who are U.S. citizens, pursuing four-year degrees at U.S. colleges or universities and planning to attend full-time (a minimum of 12 semester hours).

Reunion set for schools in Allison, Arboles, TiffanyThere will be a reunion and potluck for all former students of the Allison, Arboles and Tiffany schools at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Allison Grange Hall, 2622 County Road 329.
