New boxing gym offers training for seniors, Parkinson’s patients

Durango coach believes boxing can benefit all ages

A new boxing gym has opened in the Main Mall that offers classes for beginners, seniors and those with Parkinson's, among others.

George Keen, 90, works out with Katy Kopec, owner of The Good Fight Boxing Gym, recently at the gym located in the Main Mall. He says his noncontact boxing training with Kopec has helped improve his strength and balance.
Katy Kopec, owner of The Good Fight Gym Boxing Gym, works out with Bill Hawkins at the gym in the Main Mall. Kopec had been teaching private lessons and a boxing class for those with movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, at the Durango Martial Arts Academy before opening her own gym.
The Good Fight Gym Boxing Gym offers an Open Boxing Class for all skill levels, the Championship Round Boxing class for adults 55 and older, and private or semiprivate training sessions.
