I wanted to comment on Rep. Scott Tiptons stance on the debt ceiling vote and its ramification on my own personal situation.
By attaching all the cost-cutting wishes to the bill, the results were pretty grim. My IRA has shrunk to the 2008 levels, which, if it doesnt turn around soon, will create a small glitch in my retirement plans.
We all know that waste is a problem in all governments and cost cutting is a necessity. But raising revenue would help some, especially if the rich could help the rest of us a little bit. Most of us will not be able to contribute to political campaigns even if we wanted to, but I am sure the rich will be able and willing to help those who helped them.
Holding the country hostage to get ones way is not my idea of good democracy. Perhaps reducing the House of Representatives by half and having only one senator from each state would help in the cost cutting that the supercommittee has been directed to do.
