University of Colorado Buffaloes AD, coach roll into Durango

New Colorado head football coach Mel Tucker, front center, will be in Durango at 5:30 p.m. Friday along with athletic director Rick George and chancellor Philip DiStefano as part of the University of Colorado’s at Boulder’s summer tour across Colorado. They plan to discuss CU’s innovative programs and the upcoming football season while visiting with alums and prospective students. Tucker was named the new head coach of the Buffaloes in December, and this will be his first appearance in Durango. The event is at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hoterl in Durango on 501 Camino Del Rio.
Mel Tucker, who had spent the last three years as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach at the University of Georgia, was named the 26th full-time head football coach at the University of Colorado, athletic director Rick George announced Dec. 5. Tucker replaces Mike MacIntyre, who was dismissed as CU’s head coach on Nov. 18 with one game remaining in the season.
