The fifth annual Tour de Farms, designed to acquaint people with sources of food, will be held Aug. 27. Bicycle will be the mode of transportation for two tours.
A 5-mile, in-town tour will visit five Durango sites. Participants will meet at the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave., at 8 a.m. A small snack will be provided.
A 25-mile tour will take riders along La Posta Road (County Road 213) to see four farms or businesses. Riders will meet at Ska Brewery, 225 Girard St., at 7:30 a.m. Samples will be available at the stops, but otherwise riders must provide their own snacks.
Tour leaders and bicycle mechanics will accompany the groups. There will be water stops.
Information and registration is available at the master gardener booth at the Durango Farmers Market or at www.healthylifestylelaplata.org. Only people who register can participate. The cost is $20 per person or $50 for a family of two adults and up to two children. Children in kid carriers ride free.
All riders must wear helmets.
Anyone who can’t afford the registration fee or who needs a bicycle may contact Darcy Craig at (303) 870-8108.
The registration fee includes the tour, a post-ride lunch at Ska Brewery, a commemorative glass, live music and one pint of beer or nonalcoholic beverage.
