I am in complete agreement with Ross Wait, who took care of his dog family members by leaving them in his truck with the air conditioning on (Letters, Herald, Aug. 5). Durangoans, you were in no danger no more danger than the people who leave their vehicles running while they go into the post office, or convenience store, or parents keeping their cars running in the winter or summer heat to stay comfortable while waiting to pick their kids up.
I see cars left running all the time. The dogs were not going to put the car in drive, nor was it going to do so itself. Please, get off the sanctimonious high horses. The man did the responsible thing. Leaving windows down would have exposed the dogs to possible theft or injury never mind other valuables in the car while traveling; never mind the car potentially being stolen. We try to educate people about not leaving animals and children in hot cars, and when a visitor to our fair city makes the best choice in traveling circumstances, he gets a ticket? That sends the wrong message.
