Fort Lewis College cycling flock reunites for Iron Horse weekend

Fort Lewis College cycling director Dave Hagen watched a flock of FLC cycling alumni gather Friday for an alumni ride. The cycling team has organized the ride for several years on the morning before the annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic with so many alumni returning to their roots of cycling in Durango. The FLC cycling program has won 24 national championships in its history across all disciplines and, much like the IHBC, has helped grow the cycling culture that permeates Durango.
Sarah Sturm, front, was among the group of Fort Lewis College cycling alumni who met for Friday’s annual group ride ahead of Iron Horse Bicycle Classic weekend. She will be among the favorites in Saturday’s women’s pro road race.
Chad Cheeney and several Fort Lewis College cycling alumni gathered for the annual pre-Iron Horse Bicycle Classic group ride Friday in Durango.
Several Fort Lewis College cycling alumni meet the Friday before the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic each year for a group ride out the Animas Valley. The FLC cycling program has won 24 national championships in its history across all disciplines and, much like the IHBC, has helped grow the cycling culture that permeates Durango.
