A property tax exemption is available for tax year 2019, affecting taxes payable in 2020 for 100% service-disabled veterans and surviving spouses of those who previously qualified.
Veterans must have owned and lived on the property as their primary residence as of Jan. 1 of the year applied. Fifty percent of the first $200,000 of actual value of their primary residence is exempt. The state will fund the exemption for tax year 2019.
Once approved, the exemption remains on the person’s account. Applicants should not reapply.
To receive an application, call the Colorado Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs at (303) 284-6077. The veteran’s application deadline is July 1.
