Local First continues to celebrate local food, local producers and local chefs in the harvest weeks that mark the end of summer. Yes, soon well be talking about the frost on the pumpkins.
Last weekends Tour de Farms was a sell-out event, with folks already planning on doing it again next year. Check out the photos at the bottom of this page.
The beautiful garden of the Rochester Hotel courtyard is the place to be on Sept. 9 for Stem to Stem, a garden-inspired evening featuring delectable appetizers and cocktails from the bounty of our local gardens. The menu will be crafted and prepared by Chris Crowl of Cosmopolitan, Linda Illsley of Lindas Local Food Cafe, Kurt Trautmann of Durango Natural Foods, Ryan Lowe of the Ore House and Heather Hinsley of Celebration Cakes. Its a 5 to 7 p.m. cocktail event in the heart of our historic downtown. A limited number of tickets are available. Tickets are $55 per person and can be purchased online at www.local-first.org, or at Durango Coffee Company and Marias Bookshop.
Health-conscious foodies, heres a website to check out: www.durangonutrition.com. Tomorrow, Durango Nutrition will move into a new home adjacent to the Durango Public Library at 1800 East Third Ave, Suite 112. The office will be housed in a certified gluten-free commercial kitchen (coined the Hippocrates Kitchen!), allowing for more hands-on taste testing, nutrition consulting and educational programs.
Rumor has it that well be able to find such wonders as gluten-free pasta, ravioli, gnocchi and bread, thanks to cooks Roxanne and Anne Riccardi of The Intolerant Italian and Wildflour Baking. Durango Nutrition, which will share a location with Namaste Health Center, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays. An open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 21.
Durango Nutrition offers a health consultation for $85 and a one-hour follow-up visit for $65, by appointment only. Plus, you can learn about the many classes, such as Going Gluten-Free or Nutrition and Hormone Balance, that are offered through Fort Lewis College Continuing Education.
