A festive, new food truck serves up healthy American fare out of a converted camp trailer with an Alice in Wonderland theme.
The Tunick family started up the Cheeseshire Cat in honor of their children’s favorite movie and character.
Professionally trained chef Jami Tunick and her daughters, Abbygale and Haylee, prepare and serve up vegan gluten-free chili, potato bread with spices, simple and deluxe quesadillas with salsa, Frito pies and cheeseburgers.
“We are family-friendly and budget-friendly,” Tunick said.
“Everything is made from scratch. Grandma’s potato bread is a famous family recipe, and it pairs great with the chili,” Tunick said.
Tunick went to culinary school in New Mexico, and developed her skills at home, cooking for her husband and their five children.
“Food is what I’m good at, so I decided ‘I’m going to do this,’” she said. “It’s a great opportunity to teach the kids about the responsibilities of the working world, too.”
The food is flavorful and filling, and has that culinary-trained specialty, like the pineapple salsa with its sweet-and-spicy combination.
The homemade cookies are perfectly crunchy and mouth-watering.
Her husband, James, remodeled the trailer into a self-contained, certified kitchen, and local artist Ashley Nolan painted the colorful Alice in Wonderland scenes on the outside.
“It is a team effort, and we have had a good response,” Tunick said. “I’m excited to make great food and meet the community.”
